2022 Breakneck Point Trail Runs

Another epic weekend for the Breakneck Point Trail Runs is in the books! This is one of our favorite races of the year. The marathon race on Saturday was a USATF qualifier for the USA Mountain Running Team, with the chance to represent your country at the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Nov 3-6th, 2022.

Michelle Merlis went out strong to win the women’s field in a time of 5:26:53! She's off to race in Thailand! MPF coaching athletes had a strong day as well! For many this race was their entry into trail running while others use this race as a kick off to their mountain running season for upcoming events like Blood Root 100, Tahoe 200 and Manitou’s Revenge 54 mile ultra.

Here is a little footage from the day, captured by Steve Lange who was on site for us. Steve won the half marathon on Sunday. Thank you, Steve!

MPF/RNR team was out to test their fitness as well! Mathias Lipsey took the lead forcing Max King to work hard from the gun (ram's horn) for his team spot! The race was heated between the top 5, until Matt unfortunately took a wrong turn. He was on a good day. The battle then ensued between David Hedges and Max, with Max out kicking David by 6 seconds in the end with a winning time of 4:11:54. It was a sprint finish, as seems to happen often at Breakneck. Check out this clip of their last 2 miles from Remi Leroux.

It was nice to see Liam Cregan and Jason Kolb back on their feet after life took over for a bit. Jay Lemos went for the double giving a solid effort on both days. De’vang coming off Hyner the previous weekend was out looking healthy and strong.

Shout to all who toed the line or volunteered for this beast! We will see you next year!
