The 2015 Vermont 50 Mile Mountain Bike Race by Joe Azze

After a long year and a bit of a scramble, I wasn't sure if I would make it to Windsor, VT for the Vermont 50 mile mountain bike race. This race sells out fast! Each year it seems within minutes so you have to be ready to register and commit as soon as reg opens in late May.

I love the state of Vermont and I really enjoyed my experience here last year so I was looking forward to this weekend. I have been camping each year at the Mt Ascutney Campground. If you want to stay here you will need to register for a site within a couple of weeks from when you register for the race because they also sell out fast. They do allow late arrivals to park overnight and camp out in a field across the road for $10 if there are no campsites or lean to's available. They only do this for special occasions such as the VT 50.

Goal for the day was to enjoy the adventure along the beautiful trails and roads of Vermont. I did just that. Here are a few photos that I took during the race. Some I took as I was moving a long and others as I stopped and enjoyed some of the amazing views.

I felt good for most of the day other then on a few sections where I had some cramping because I was riding harder then what I was fit for. I was able to walk those off with a little added nutrition, hydration and conscious breathing.

I plan to do this race each year for the foreseeable future. It is a great community, the trails are awesome and there is just something about climbing those long dirt roads and riding through some amazing farm land that I absolutely enjoy.
