LEADWOMEN may be Canceled but TRAINING isn’t

Coach Elizabeth Azze here! I know some of you are feeling lost without a race to run or to socialize at, but given the current crisis, we should feel fortunate to be healthy. Joe and I, along with our clients are making the best of our training and way of life. Our schedules may not look the same as if gearing up for a goal race, but we are still practicing and training. We are sharpening our strength movements, skills while mtbing, and working on weaknesses.

I do get it, 2020 was supposed to be a big year of training and racing for me! I was entered in the Leadwoman series in Leadville CO, which as of today is officially cancelled.

  • Leadville Trail Marathon, June 13th

  • Silver Rush 50 MTB or Run, July 12th.

  • Leadville 100 MTB, Aug. 15th

  • Leadville 10k, Aug. 16th

  • Leadville 100 Foot Race, Aug. 22nd.

I loved our training for leadwoman, it forced me to embrace another sport and fall back in love with being a multi sport athlete again! I believe more than ever that cross training is vital to enhance your overall athletic ability and I encourage all of you to step out of your comfort zone, don’t worry your running persona will not get angry with you for spending a little time doing something else.

This video captures the continual practice and patience it takes to make the best of the experience on the mountain bike. Sometimes it took me several times to make it up the hill, learning the right line and how to shift my weight. Luckily for me I have a patient teacher (my husband), who is as happy as I am when I clear a technical route or a hill.

Mtbing simulates most things in life, it's not easy, but the reward of clearing a section or making it to the top of a hill offers so much. Take this time to learn something new, work on becoming stronger through strength training or simply work on any of your weaknesses. Look forward to being a stronger, more versatile athlete, when it's your time once again to stand on the starting line. Leadwoman 2021 here I come!
