News & Photos from the 2017 NYC Marathon!
So many inspiring stories from the 47th NYC Marathon! For the last 10 years Elizabeth and I made our way into the city to watch over 50,000 runners run through the streets of New York City. Each year we have clients, friends and for the 1st time this year a family member toeing the line of this great marathon. We headed into the city with my parents so that they could watch my sister Michelle run her 1st. To view album on Facebook, click here.
We were lucky to have found quick parking on 110th street and then walked a nice route through Central Park. We crossed 5th Avenue and found a spot on 109th street to watch the lead women and men come through. This has been our go to area each year because it is around mile 23 and you can watch the lead women and men come through this flat stretch of road that leads into a gradually climb up to East 90th Street, which it then enters Central Park. You can then walk a few blocks to 1st Street for an entirely different race perspective.
It was amazing watching Shalane Flanagan from the USA fly down 5th Avenue leading the women’s field! We felt an intense energy from the pace that she was setting ahead of Mary Keitany (KEN) and Mamitu Daska (ETH), it was awesome! Here are some photos that I captured of Shalane Flanagan on her way to becoming the 1st USA female in 40 years to win the NYC Marathon! Her finishing time was 2:26:53 | 5:37 mile pace! Full results
We also saw the lead men come through and Meb Keflezighi running his last marathon of his career! In the end, Geoffrey Kamworor (KEN) held off Wilson Kipsang (KEN) to win by 3 seconds! Men's full results
We then made our way over to 1st Avenue to try to capture a glimpse of some of our clients that were running. For the last 3 years we have been working with athletes raising money toward Epilepsy research. Many athletes of team FACES (finding a cure epilepsy & seizures, part of NYU Langone Medical Center) have personally suffered from epilepsy or have a child/relative with frequent episodes. Congratulations to Team FACES: Richard Shane, Noem Oren, Lena Scunziano, Noel Simisiman, Emily Merrit and Masa Ostojic. To learn more about FACES or to donate please, click here.
Congratulations also goes to MPF athlete, Matthew Murphy for completing his first NYC Marathon representing the FDNY and to Michelle Azze for completing her very first marathon!
We had a great time cheering and celebrating all of the athletes who made the journey through the New York City streets. Congratulations to all and thank you for the inspiration! Here are more photos that I took from the day.
